AI chatbot for Shopify
Your catalogue and your store pages, answering before the cart
The Shopify app is being built, and this page describes what it will do rather than what it does. A Shopify store can already be answered from in the meantime: the crawler reads a public storefront today, and the REST API accepts whatever you push at it.
What it does
The catalogue, not a copy of it
Products with their descriptions, their variants and the options that name them -- colour, size, material -- their collections and their category. What is in stock and what is not, from the same fields your storefront reads.
The pages nobody opens until they need them
Shipping, returns, privacy and terms. Store policies are what a shopper checks before buying, which makes them the pages an assistant is asked about most and the ones hardest to find on a phone.
Current without a re-import
Editing a product updates its document and unpublishing one removes it, so the assistant stops offering what you stopped selling.
How to connect it
- 1
Install the app on your store
From the Shopify App Store, on the store you want answered. It asks for read access to products and content and nothing else.
- 2
Paste an API key
Create one in your workspace with the ingest:write scope. The app validates it before anything else unlocks, so a wrong value fails at once rather than half way through a sync.
- 3
Choose the knowledge base
The one the store writes into. If there is none yet the app says so and links you to it, because a store with nowhere to write is the first thing that goes wrong.
- 4
Run the first sync
The catalogue and the pages go across in batches. After that it follows your edits on its own.
Questions people ask
When will it be available?
There is no date. The reading side is built and tested against a real development store; what is missing is the published Shopify app, which has to pass Shopify review before anyone can install it.
Can I use WelcomeAI with Shopify today?
Yes, in two ways that need no app. The crawler reads your public storefront the way a visitor would, and the REST API accepts documents pushed from anywhere, including a script of your own.
Will it read my customers or my orders?
No. It asks for products and content, and asking for nothing more is deliberate: an assistant that answers about the catalogue has no reason to see who bought what.
Will it work on Shopify Plus?
Yes. Nothing it reads depends on the plan the store is on.
