Send chatbot leads to SAP

A business partner in S/4HANA, or in Business One

A lead from the chat becomes a business partner. Which SAP you run decides how it gets there -- S/4HANA writes through the business partner OData service, Business One through the Service Layer -- and the connection asks once rather than making you find out.

What it does

Both products, one connection

Pick S/4HANA or Business One when you connect. They share a name and almost nothing else, so everything after that question is different, and none of it is yours to know.

An email lands where SAP keeps one

In S/4HANA an address is not a field on a partner: it hangs under one, and the email hangs under that. The connector assembles the nesting from flat fields, so you map Email, not a path three levels deep.

Your server, your rules

Both run on your own infrastructure, so the address is a field and the reachability is yours. A user without authorisation for business partners is refused after the credential verifies, which the connect form says up front.

How to connect it

Read the full guide
  1. 1

    Decide which product

S/4HANA or Business One. The rest of the form changes with the answer.

  2. 2

    Expose the service

For S/4HANA, API_BUSINESS_PARTNER on the gateway. For Business One, the Service Layer, usually on port 50000.

  3. 3

    Connect SAP

The server address and a user that may create business partners. We verify by doing the handshake each product needs: a CSRF fetch, or a login.

  4. 4

    Map the fields

Name, email, phone and the address parts. A partner needs a last name, and one is filled in when the mapping leaves it out.

Questions people ask

Does it need SAP Cloud Connector?

Only if your gateway is not reachable from the internet. The connector calls your server directly, so whatever fronts it has to let the call through.

Customer or lead?

In Business One a chat lead is created as a lead, which is what cLid means there. In S/4HANA a business partner is one object with roles, so the partner is created and the role is yours to set.

Has this been tested against a live system?

Not against a hosted one, because there is no SAP host to test against: both products run on the customer's own server. It is written against SAP's documentation of the two APIs, and the first connection is the first measurement.

Which S/4HANA versions?

Anything exposing API_BUSINESS_PARTNER, which covers S/4HANA Cloud and on-premise from 1610 onwards.
