Send chatbot leads to Epicor

A customer in Kinetic, or in Prophet 21

A lead from the chat becomes a customer record. Kinetic and Prophet 21 are different products with different APIs, and the connection asks which one you run before anything else.

What it does

Kinetic wants both halves

REST v2 refuses a request that carries an API key without a user, or a user without an API key, and the two failures read differently. Both fields are checked before anything is saved, so a missing key never arrives as a bad password.

Company-scoped, because Kinetic is

Its REST URLs carry the company id, so the connection asks for it rather than picking the first one and being right most of the time.

Prophet 21 signs in first

It trades the user and password for a token and carries that. The exchange happens on every send, so there is nothing to refresh and nothing to store.

How to connect it

Read the full guide
  1. 1

    Decide which product

Kinetic or Prophet 21. The rest of the form changes with the answer.

  2. 2

    Get an API key

Kinetic only, from the Epicor API application registration. Prophet 21 does not use one.

  3. 3

    Connect Epicor

The server address, the company id for Kinetic, and a user that may create customers.

  4. 4

    Map the fields

Name, email, phone and the address parts. A customer needs a name, and one is filled in when the mapping leaves it out.

Questions people ask

Which Kinetic versions?

Anything serving REST v2, which is Kinetic 2021.1 onwards. Version 1 of the API is not what this calls.

Does Prophet 21 need the middleware?

Yes. The REST surface is served by the P21 middleware, and which endpoints exist varies with the version installed. If a call is refused the message says which endpoint answered.

Has this been tested against a live system?

Not against a hosted one: both products run on the customer's own server, so there is no shared host to test against. It is written against Epicor's documentation of the two APIs, and the first connection is the first measurement.

Can it create anything other than a customer?

Not yet. A customer is what a chat lead becomes in both products; other business objects are on the list.
