Send chatbot leads to CallRail as form submissions
Attributed to the campaign that paid for them
A lead from the chat becomes a CallRail form submission on the company you choose, carrying where the visitor came from -- so the campaign that produced a chat is credited the same way the campaign that produced a call is.
What it does
The attribution travels with the lead
The widget records the referrer, the landing page and every UTM and click id on first touch. Those are exactly the fields CallRail needs, so nothing has to be reconstructed later.
Calls and chats in one report
A form submission is a first-class CallRail object: it groups by source, campaign and landing page next to your calls, and counts towards the same lead totals.
Tags, value and lead status
A route can tag the submission, attach a monetary value and mark it a good lead, so a chat can be qualified without opening two tools.
How to connect it
Read the full guide- 1
Create a CallRail API key
Your account menu, My Account, then API Keys. The key carries the access of the user who made it, so make it with a user who can see the company you want.
- 2
Connect CallRail
In Destinations, paste the key. We list every company the key can reach, grouped by account.
- 3
Create a route
Choose which leads it takes -- one widget, or all of them -- and the company they land on.
- 4
Map the fields
Phone and email go inside the form data; the landing page and the referrer come straight from the lead's attribution. Auto-map, then check it.
Questions people ask
Does this need CallRail's JavaScript on my site?
No. The submission is sent server to server with the attribution we already captured. Their script is what swaps tracking numbers for calls; it is not needed for this.
How does CallRail know who the person is?
By the phone number inside the form data -- it parses one out and finds or creates the customer. It is the one field worth mapping above all others here, which is the opposite of a CRM.
What happens to a lead that arrived directly?
It is still sent. CallRail requires a traffic source, and a visit with no referrer is recorded as direct, which is the name its own reports use.
Can it update an existing call?
Not yet. This route creates form submissions. Attaching a chat to a call that already happened means matching people by phone number, and a self-reported number is not proof of identity.
