WelcomeAI answers your visitors' questions using your own content. Four steps get you from an empty workspace to a live assistant.

1. Create a knowledge base

A knowledge base is a set of documents your assistant can answer from. Most teams start with one: their public help content. Go to Knowledge bases and create it.

2. Add your content

You can mix sources in the same knowledge base:

• Upload files. PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Markdown or plain text.
• Crawl your site. Give us a starting URL and we follow the links, respecting robots.txt.
• Paste text or a question and answer. Useful for the things nobody wrote down yet.
• Connect a source. Webflow, WordPress, or your own system through the REST API.

Every document is split into passages and indexed. The Documents list shows progress; a document is answerable as soon as it says indexed.

3. Try it in the Playground

Open the knowledge base and go to Playground. Ask the questions your customers actually ask. Each answer shows which passages it used, so when an answer is wrong you can see whether the content is missing or the retrieval picked the wrong thing.

If the assistant says it does not know, that is the honest answer: it will not invent one. Add the missing content and ask again.

4. Install a widget

Go to Widgets, create one, choose the surface (a floating chat bubble, an inline panel, a docs-style assistant), and copy the script tag. Paste it before the closing body tag of your site.

We detect the installation automatically. The widget page shows the domains where it has been seen.

What next

• Set up a form so the assistant can collect leads during a conversation.
• Watch Analytics for the questions that got no answer; those are the gaps in your content.
